NESC Participates in EUPAN Working Level Meeting as Part of Ireland’s EU Presidency Programme of Events

On Thursday, 1st October, NESC Policy Analyst Dr David Hallinan participated in a Working Level meeting of the EUPAN (European Public Administration Network) held at Dublin Castle as part of Ireland’s EU Presidency programme of events.

The Department of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation is chairing the EUPAN during Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The meeting was attended by senior public administration officials and representatives from EU Member States, the European Commission, the OECD and accession countries.

David gave a presentation on NESC Report No.173, Artificial Intelligence in Service of Society: Navigating Our Way Forward (click to read here), providing an overview of the Council’s reflections and priority actions to guide policy, governance, and implementation in pursuit of responsible, safe, and ethical AI adoption in Ireland.

Other presenters included David Mair, Head of Unit, Joint Research Centre, European Commission; and Tony Shannon, Head of Digital Services, OGCIO at DPER. The presenters participated in the discussions of the EUPAN, which covered themes such as Human-AI collaboration, AI Adoption and Digital Innovation at Scale in the Public Service, Cybersecurity and EU Sovereignty in AI.
