NESC Energy Conference 2025: Energising the Transition

A special event marking the culmination of NESC’s Energy Programme 2024-25.

Over the course of NESC’s Energy Programme 2024-2025 we have examined the future of the energy transition, and what that means for Ireland’s economy, society, and the environment.

This conference, which took place on 22nd October in the Radisson Blu Golden Lane, followed the publication of NESC’s reports Ireland’s Future Power System and Economic Resilience, International Trade Dependencies and the Energy Transition, and Connecting People to the Energy Transition, in addition to preceding Energy Transition: A Systems Perspective. The in-person event built on this extensive body of work, and incorporated inputs from national and international experts to provide stimulating discussions of how Ireland can make the necessary transition for the good of all people and sectors.

The proceedings were officially opened by Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment and Minister for Transport, Darragh O’Brien TD, with an Opening Address by Dr Brian Motherway, Head of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Inclusive Transitions, International Energy Agency. Keynote speakers also included Mr Kevin O’Donovan, Statkraft Senior Vice President Europe and Managing Director of UK and Ireland; Dr Lewis Akenji, Executive Director of the Hot or Cool Institute; Professor Frances Fahy of the University of Galway and the Ryan Institute; and Dr. Paul Deane of University College Cork.
