Agriculture, Climate Change and Water

This work, with Professor Charles Sabel, examines developments in Ireland’s approach to sustainable agriculture in recent years, with a particular focus on dairy and its impact on GHG emissions and water quality. It documents the actions of Bord Bia, the EPA, the dairy cooperatives and farm organizations and Teagasc, and the growing collaboration among them.  It suggests that working in parallel these developments are a promising means of organizing resources and stakeholders so that actions have the impact of forcing emissions lower over time.  It argues that this organisational capacity, which is neither wholly top-down or bottom-up, is quite novel and potentially very informative in the context of a global search for effective ways to solve environmental and climate change problems.

This work will be published in 2019.
